The Windachtal

A valley of harmony

For those who leave the roads and the lifestyle of Sölden behind. Anyone who heads out mountain hiking and mountaineering in Tyrol will come across Sölden’s quiet side. High above the rooftops in the village is an impressive natural landscape. Windachtal is the gateway to alpine abundance. Into a variety-packed plant and animal kingdom. Where there larch and Swiss pine trees over 300 years old. And the unique ‘Thayen’, which retains and nurtures the centuries-old traditions and customs of the miners in the Ötztal, serving up traditional speciality meals.

‘Friedl of the empty pockets’

History is alive and well.

A hike. A journey through time.

‘Friedl of the empty pockets’ – a touching story. Recounts Duke Friedrich IV and his escape through the Ötztal mountains in 1415. Empathetic and set right in the actual setting, the hiking theatre starts in Vent and proceeds to the Marzellferner. You get to experience what this historic event was like on several performance days in September.
