FAVOURITE PLACES IN SÖLDEN
BLOGGER NATHALIE ARON AT DAS CENTRAL
We welcomed the lovely Nathalie Aron from the travel blog Voyagefox, together with her partner at our hotel Das Central in August 2020. Nathalie was looking for the most beautiful places in and around Sölden. She explored the Ötztal Alps, the Timmelsjoch high-alpine-road and our gourmetrestaurant ice Q at more than 3000 m above sea level and a lot of other spots. In our Blog Nathalie tells more about her personal highlights during her stay in Sölden.
This summer we visited the picturesque town of Sölden which is located in the Ötztal in Austria. Before our visit I mostly knew Sölden for winter sport activities but it als has a lot to offer during all seasons of the year. The three surrounding „three-thousandar“ mountains (Gaislachkogl, Tiefenbachkogl and Schwarze Schneid) offer many incredible experiences & views!
THE HIGHLIGHTS IN SÖLDEN
Favourite places during our trip
The Gaislachkogl mountain
Surrounded by three „three-thousandar“ mountains, Sölden is all about the most incredible views. And you should definitely not miss the Gaislachkogl mountain! The easiest way to reach the top of the mountain is via the Gaislachkogl gondola. Starting from the Sölden valley station to the top station at a height of 3.040 m. On the way up is one inter station where mountain bike fans like to get off to ride down one of Austrias most amazing mountain bikes routes. The ride with the gondola is included in the Ötztal Premium Card which all guests of the hotel DAS CENTRAL get for free during their stay. At the top of the mountain I can’t believe my eyes cause we get rewarded with the most amazing view over the Ötztal Alps. Since the weather is nice and clear we can even look until the Zugspitze in Germany. A particularly beautiful and famous photo scene is the heart shaped Gaislacher lake. The best place to overlook it is from the terrace of the 007 Elements.
As two big James Bond Fans we definitely couldn’t miss the amazing James Bond Experience world which is not randomly located at the top of the Gaislachkogl mountain! The reason for it is that Sölden has been the movie set for scenes of the latest Bond movie „Spectre“. Which means that we not only immerse in the world of James Bond, while walking through the interactive galleries, but are in fact at the movie set! I especially loved to see the peek behind the scenes to experience how one of the most spectacular scenes of the movie has been filmed. The exhibition is thoughtful designed with an impressive architecture and of course the unique mountain view. THE 007 ELEMENTS
The ice Q Restaurant
Right here, 3.048 m above sea level, you can find the highest toque-rated gourmet restaurant in Austria: The ice Q! Surrounded by this unique landscape with a panoramic view of the mountains, we enjoyed a delicious three course menu and couldn’t stop to watch outside the window to appreciate the incredible landscape which has been surrounding us. We never had such a great meal in a similar atmosphere before! In the summertime you can sit on the sunny terrace and enjoy a beer with apple strudel which is a truly amazing experience combined with the views from the top of the Gaislachkogl mountain. The ice Q restaurant is where culinary delight and wonderful experiences come together! THE ICE Q RESTAURANT
THE ÖTZTAL ALPS
Hiking in the mountains & enjoying the view
Hiking in the Ötztal
The Ötztal is a paradise for hikers of all age groups and skill levels. On a gloomy day we decided to do a short but beautiful hike to the suspension bridge of Längenfeld. The hike starts in Längenfeld with a lovely view over the valley. After walking between ten and fifteen minutes through the forest we already spotted the 82 m long bridge. The first steps on the bridge gave us an adrenaline rush but it’s absolutely worth the thrill! In this height – 150 m above the ground – the views over the valley are simply spectacular. When the weather is nice you can continue your hike after the bridge a little further but since it started to rain we decided to go back to our hotel DAS CENTRAL to relax in the wellness area, after an eventful day.
THE MOST PANORAMIC ROADS
A unique feeling of freedom in Sölden
During our stay in Sölden we drove up two beautiful panoramic roads which you shouldn’t miss! Our little road trips got an even better experience since we drove with a convertible car on a sunny day to enjoy the amazing nature. Guests of the DAS CENTRAL do have the possibility to rent a brand new BMW model for free for a day. More about the BMW 840i xDrive
The Ötztaler Glacier Road
The highest road in the eastern Alps starts in Sölden and leads up to 2.830 m above sea level. During our ride we enjoyed incomparable views to the Rettenbach and the Tiefenbach glacier which didn’t cease to amaze us! In the glacier lakes we saw the reflection of the peaks and on the road we met sleepy mountain goats relaxing in the sun – it’s definitely an unforgettable driving experience. From the parking lot a gondola took us even further up! Reaching the top station of the Innere Schwarze Schneid mountain we overlooked the astonishing Rettenbach glacier. It’s the ideal place to breathe in some crisp mountain air and to enjoy the silence of nature. A toll has to be paid at the entry of the Glacier Road but the gondola rides are included in the Ötztal Premium Card
The most beautiful panoramic road in Tyrol is the Timmelsjoch which is leading through the border of Austria and Italy, and is only some minutes away from Sölden. Along picturesque curves the beauty of the High Alps has been revealing right in front of our eyes. We made several stops along the road to enjoy and photograph the postcard worthy sights which you can see in every direction. No matter if you’re driving by motorcycle or car – the Timmelsjoch will give you a unique feeling of freedom and being close to nature!
Sölden is the ideal destination for families, couples and sport enthusiasts – not only in the wintertime but throughout the whole year! Every season in the lovely Ötztal has a special charm and offers many possible experiences for visitors. After our first trip we are now already looking forward to visit this beautiful place once again.
